OBITUARY

MR E. C. LEVVEY

Formerly senior Magistrate in Christchurch, Mr E. C. Levvey died last evening. He was 70 years of age, and had been a stipendiary magistrate for nearly 27 years when he retired in 1945.

Mr Levvey carpe to New Zealand 43 years ago, and was in private practice as a lawyer in Wellington until he was appointed a stipendiary magis-

trate in 1918. He held office in Nelson. Blenheim. Dunedin, on the West Coast, in Central Otago, and Invercargill. and for short periods in other centres in the South Island. In 1935, when Mr F. D. Mosley was transferred to Wellington, Mr Levvey was appointed permanently to the Magistrate’s Court at Christchurch. He was appointed senior Magistrate for Christchurch in succession to Mr H. A. Young, in July, 1942. Mr Levvey was patron of the Christchurch Swords Club for several years. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Mrs C. E. Purchase, whose husband is Assistant-Attorney-General in British North Borneo.
