ENGLAND WIN BY TEN WICKETS

FOURTH CRICKET • TEST

FOUR WICKETS FALL IN ONE OVER

LONDON. July ». England beat South Africa in the fourth test match at Leeds by 10 wickets. England declared with the overnight score of 317 for seven, and South Africa were dismissed for 184 in their second innings. Cranston finished the South Africans’ innings sensationally, taking the last four wickets in one over without cost. He dismissed Fullerton. Mann, Tuckett, and Smith with his first, third, fifth, and sixth deliveries. England were 142 runs ahead when South Afflca began their second innings. Yardley had decided to declare after seeing that the wicket was in the same difficult condition as on the second day. Parts of the pitch were broken on top, and one end seemed still wet. Edrich again showed his value as a shock bowler, when Yardley caught Dyer off him with only six runs scored. Both Butler ana Edrich made the ball fly. Melville was later caught off Young by Compton. This was a grand catch. The ball was hit hard and wide of Compton at short extra cover, but Compton hurled himself like a goalkeeper to the left, ♦nd snatched up the ball inches from the ground with one hand, rolling over and over but clutching the ball aloft. Other wickets fell quickly. Cranston, who finished off the innings, is a Liverpool dentist and the Lancashire cricket captain. Hutton and Washbrook had no trouble in making the runs necessary for a win. The last stroke of the match was a mighty six by Hutton off Mann.
