TRAINING FOR FAMILY LIFE

Sir, —A society such as the Montgomery Society, which it is proposed to establish in Christchurch, is needed all over the world. Field-Marshal Lord Montgomery repeated his belief in the importance of home life, at all the places he visited, emphasising the need of teaching the essentials of honesty, sincerity, truthfulness, and clean living. Queen Elizabeth has brought up her daughters in the right way, and she will be rewarded some day. All the young parents should follow her good example. If everyone remembered Field-Marshal Montgomery’s belief in Christian behaviour, the world, would be radiated with happiness, peace, and goodwill.— Yours, etc., J. KINNEAR. July 29, 1947.

Sir, —I have been eagerly watching your column to see if some other pen than mine would congratulate the Civic Health Committee on its proposed scheme to improve home life. Personally, I think this a marvellous idea (the best since social security was introduced) and I would suggest that all women’s organisations give their support to this, and make it ( worthy of the name “Montgomery Society.” In every town the fieldmarshal visited he emphasised the importance of home life. If a close study of the cause of divorces was held (not only in New Zealand) we would find a big percentage lay with conditions in the home. The wife could not cook as “my mother could” and was incapable of running a home, simply because she was never shown how to do these things. This scheme would be a godsend to many. I would like to hear what others have to say.— Yotirs, etc., , BLOSSOM. July 29, 1947.
