ARBOR DAY

Sir,—When J. S. Morton moved the Dakota Legislation to appoint Arbor Day, soon adopted universally, he -would not anticipate it would now be criticised for lack of after-care. Has any one ever heard of a school inspector reporting on the number of trees sent from St. Martins to some school in a given year and on their condition in a year’s time? Has a board member ever considered the expenditure at the nursery and the results obtained? School committees give more hope. If the board would ask them to plant, cut or top shelter belts at the school grounds I feel hopeful that the response would be good, and certain that great benefit would accrue.—Yours, etc., , JAS. R. WILKINSON. Rangiora, July 29, 1947.
