PRICES OF FUR COATS

CONTROL NEXT MONTH

Prices of fur coats and furs will be controlled by the Price Tribunal for the first time, beginning on August 1 Previously prices have been regulated under the Board of Trade Act to prevent profiteering. Recently wholesale and retail furriers have submitted details of their costs to the Price Tribunal to obtain the approved prices for their products. Under the new system each garment 6r line will be individually priced. After allowing such expenses as cost of goods, labour, and plant costs, manufacturing wholesalers will be permitted to sell the garment to retailers at a profit of 10 per cent. Retailers will be allowed an all-over profit of 50 per cent., from which they will have to deduct all their costs.
