DIRECT SHIP FROM BRISBANE
PASSENGERS BROUGHT TO WELLINGTON
(P.A.) WELLINGTON. July 28. The first vessel to make a direct Tasman crossing between Brisbane and Wellington for some months arrived at Wellington this morning. It was the Shaw Savill liner Walrangi, which brought 92 passengers. The crossing took four days. The Wairangi was in ballast, having discharged all her outward cargo at Australian ports. Among the passengers was the former chief engineer of the Government of Bombay (Mr W. Garrod), who is spending a holiday in New Zealand before entering on his retirement in England. Another passenger was Mr A. J. Byron. Australasian general manager of Schweppes. Ltd., who is visiting New Zealand in an attempt to revive the company’s aerated water plants.
