KENNELS AT WOOLSTON
ANIMAL PROTECTION SOCIETY COUNCIL (ioMMITTEE’S INSPECTION
Residents of the district and representatives of the Animal Protection Society yesterday afternoon presented cases to the town planning committee of the Christchurch City Council against and for the retention of the society’s kennels at Graham street, Woolston. The only dog near the kennels when the Mayor (Mr E. H. Andrews) and the committee members were making their inspection was one stray, but several cats were at the home. Keen arguments between the residents and officials of the society yesterday were reported. The residents had protested to the council that the kennels were a nuisance and the townplanning committee had decided that they be removed from the area. On the society appealing for their retention, the committee decided to make an inspection '•and to hear both sides at the same time, “The matter will now be considered by the committee, which will present its report to the next meeting of the City Council,” said the Mayor last evening when he was questioned on the committee’s visit to the kennels.
