SERVICEMEN’S HOMES
Sir,—Hats off to Mr H. E. Batchelor, vice-president of the Returned Services’ Association, for his consistent crusade in the interests of servicemen’s homes. In view of current agitation lor a lowering of State Advances building standards, a quotation from the current trade journal of the New South Wales Master Builders’ Association, “Construction,” of July 2, 1947, throws some light on another aspect of the problem Mr Batchelor opens up. S. D. C. Kennedy, master builder, says: “As president of the Master Builders’ Association at that time, I stressed that we were likely to have an army of ‘get-rich-quick’ people who would try to cash in on the position, many of whom would have no qualifications whatsoever for entry to the building trade. Registration of builders is imperative.” I think the public here deserve a similar standard of morality.— Yours, etc., A. E. E. IVORY. July 28, 1947.
