ASHES IN TIN BOX

SUSSEX FISHERMEN’S CATCH MAN CREMATED IN NEW ZEALAND Two fishermen, Bert Grant and Bob Byne, caught a tin box in Pevensey Bay. Sussex, says a cable message from London. On it was written: “The ashes of Henry Robert Murray, cremated at Christchurch, New' Zealand, on January 16. 1939.” Paper wrapped round the box bore a New Zealand stamp and the words, “From M. S. Green.” The box was handed to the police.

Commenting on this message last evening, Mr T. L. Jones, of the Cremation Society, Ltd., said that the ashes were probably those of William Henry Robert Murray who died at the Timaru Hospital on January 12. 1939. and was cremated on January 16 it Christchurch. His explanation of the box being found in the sea was that it might have been on a ship which had been sunk during the war.
