U.S. STEEL PRICES INCREASED

EFFECTS ON COSTS OF MOTOR-VEHICLES (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 25. Two major steel companies raised their prices to-day. following the lead set by. two other firms yesterday. The increases are about 10 per cent., and it is estimated that car builders’ steel costs will be from 10 to 15 dollars more each car.

President Truman, in an economic report to Congress on July 21, appealed to the steel industry not to raise its prices, and added that increases in steel prices would have a widespread inflationary effect.
