MILLION AIRS
(By WHIM WHAM. I It was interesting to learn that about 3.0C0.000 gallons (two gallons a head of population) was consumed in New Zaalsnd each year, said the Mayor of Auckland (Mr J. A. C. Allum), opening the Dominion conference of the Ice Cream Manufacturers' Association. —News Item. How big the Figures always seem— Three Million Gallons of Ice Cream! The annual Aggregate of Ices Consumed in Plates. Cones, Cartons, Slices. The common Threepenny or Penny, The chocolate-covered Things, the Many Strange Variations on the Theme Of plain industrial Ice Cream. Production's massive Totals show How Industries to Greatness grow. Who dares to say, Production lags? Behold, a Billion Paper Bags! So many Million Feet of Rope, So many Million‘Bars of Soap, So many Million Mousetraps, Laces, Boxes of Matches, Pairs of Braces. The Manufacturer’s Bosom swells With honest Pride in What he sells; But Big Statistics are the Art To captivate his simple Heart. Not every Enterprise, alas, Expands into th'e Million Class. Take mine—this Verse I’m writing now: Won’t some kind Expert tell me how To mark my Output, up to Date, With some Six-figure Aggregate To cheer me on, as Here I sign My (merely) Fifteen-thousandth Line!
