WINTER TOURNAMENT Winter tennis matches were continued at Wilding Park on Saturday. Results were as follows: South Brighton I v. South Brighton II Singles.—R. A. H. Howe lost to A. R. Cant, 6-3, 4-6, 5-7; A T. Goddard beat G E. R. Atkinson, 6-2, 6-3; K. T Hardie lost to N. Brydges-Jones, 4-6, 6-1, 4-6; F. Latham lost to R. L. Robinson 1-6, 2-6. Dougles.—Howe and Goddard lost to Cant and Atkinson, 7-5, 1-6, 3-6; Hardie and Latham lost to Brydges-Jones and Robinson 3-6, 2-6. South Brighton 11 won by 5 rubbers to 1. Woolston v. Canterbury College Singles.—A. L. Blackwell beat B. R. Penfold, 6-3, 4-6, 64); D. McGhie beat J. O. Sftell, 6-3, 7-5; J. Steward beat E. Ireland, 6-3, 0-6. 6-1; K. B. Allin beat P. Foster. 6-4, 6-2. Doubles.—Blackwell and Allin beat Penfold and Snell, 6-1, 6-2; Steward and McGhie beat Ireland and Foster. 6-3, 7-5. Woolston won by 6 rubbers to 0. Elmwood I v. Elmwood II Singles.—E. J. Donnithorne beat W. G. P. Cuningham, 6-0, 6-0; J. J. Buchan lost to E'. O. E. Hill. 4-6, 0-6; W. P. Jones beat D. Bannehr. 6-2, 6-2; G. W. Goodwin lost to N. Robinson, 1-6, 1-6. Doubles.—Donnithorne and Buchan beat Bannehr and Robinson, 6-2, 10-8; Jones and Goodwjn beat Cuningham and Hill. 3-6. 6-3, 7-5. Elmwood I won by 4 rubbers to 2. Ladbrooks v. Avonside Singles.—J. Pickering lost to V. W. Hammond, 5-7, 4-6; A. Jacob lost to H R. Fuller, 1-6, 2-6; P. Bell lost to F. Horgan, 4-6, 7-9 Doubles—Pickering and Jacob lost to Hammond and Fuller, 2.-6, 6-4, 4-6; Bell and Ware lost to Horgan and O’Neill 7-5, 4-6, 4-6. Avonside won by 5 rubbers to 0.

There are brilliant splashes of colour in the Townend house at the Cnristchurch Botanic Gardens. A new isplay of cineraria and primula has been arranged in banked formation. The cinerarias include a wide range of colours in modern large-flowered varieties. The primula shades are mauve.
