CROSS-COUNTRY RUNNING

ANGLICAN CLUBS MEET AT ASHBURTON The annual run between the Christchurch and Timaru Anglican Harrier Clubs was held at Ashburton on Saturday. NORTH ISLAND WEST COAST CONTEST

(P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, July 27. W. J. Wells, the defending title-holder, won the West Coast of the North Island harrier championship at New Plymouth on Saturday. His time over a heavy course of six miles and a quarter was 36 minutes 24 seconds.

The placings were:—Wells 1, S. Robertson (Marton) 2, N. Bates (New Plymouth) 3, R. Lamberton (Feilding) 4, G. Bromley (Marton) 5, H. J. Brown (New Plymouth) 6.

The following team was selected to represent the centre at the New Zealand championships:—Wells, Bates, Bromley, K. Tabor (Palmerston North), S. Jelly (Wanganui), and A. Therrin (Palmerston North). WELLINGTON CHAMPIONSHIPS (P A.) WELLINGTON, July 27. C. Dickie, of Brooklyn, scored a decisive win in the Wellington senior crosscountry harrier championship at Trentham on Saturday. His nearest opponent was H. Taylor (Hutt Valley), 200 yards back. C. Hawke (University) was third. In the junior championship, R. Read (Presbyterian) won in fine style for the third time. N. Sutton (Hutt Valley) was second, and N. Sherrin (Brooklyn) third.
