DUTCH OCCUPY TEGAL
Combined Operation Against Port ADVANCES MADE IN JAVA (Rec. 12.30 a.m.) BATAVIA, July 27. The Dutch occupation of the port of Plahuhan Ratu, 40 miles south of Sukabumi on the south coast of West Java and Tegal, on the north coast, 40 miles east of Cheribon, is announced in a Dutch Army communique. z . Marine landing parties combined with land forces pushing eastward from Cheribon to occupy Tegal, which before the war was a big overseas shipping port. The power station at Lamadjang, near Pengalengan, 20 miles south of the pre-war summer capital, Bandoeng, has also been taken. Heavier resistance than usual was encountered in the occupation of the power station, but to all appearances the station is Undamaged. “In the middle of Java Republican troops continued to attack near Genuksari, in the east part of the occupied Samarang zone, using women as shields,” adds the communique. “They were repulsed with losses. Subsequently, Dutch troops carried out a clearing sweep. They were hampered by Republican artillery.” The communique says that Dutch casualties are now 41 killed, 75 wounded, and eight missing. According to reports from the Antara (Indonesian) news service, the Republican forces in Sumatra have taken the pre-war Dutch capital, Medan. ROYAL FAMILY BACK IN LONDON (Rec. 7 *.m.)
