GOVERNMENT’S VIEWS SOUGHT

(From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 25. “What action, if any, does the Minister intend taking in the event of the Waterside Workers’ Union refusing to unload cargo from Dutch ships entering New Zealand ports?” asked Mr R. M. Algie (Opposition Remuera) of the Minister of Labour (Mr A. McLagan) in the House of Representatives this morning. In a note to the question, Mr Algie said that the president of the union (Mr H. Barnes) had stated that in view of the developments in Indonesia he thought there was little chance of his union permitting Dutch shipping to enter New Zealand ports. After the question was asked there was a chorus of interjections, in one of which Mr F. W. Doidge (Opposition, Tauranga) described Mr Barnes as “New Zealand’s Foreign Minister.”
