Britain Short of Sodium.—A shortage of sodium, a chemical needed in wool-combing, is threatening the employment of thousands of Workers in Yorkshire, says the “Daily Telegraph.” The Wool-combing Employers’ Federation says that unless the supply, which is dependent on coal production, improves, 12,000 employees face an almost immediate cut to two shifts a week.—London, July 23. Broadcast by Grade Fields.—Grade Fields, in her first 8.8. C. broadcast since 1940, said that she had enjoyed her visit to New Zealand and Australia. She added that while she was in New Zealand she had fallen in love with Alfred Hill’s song “Waiata Poi.” She concluded her programme with another New Zealand song. “Now 5s the Hour.” which, she said, had been sung right across New Zealand, Australia, and America.—London, July 23.
