Mr Ronald Macdonald has been appointed a director of the Linen Flax Corporation of New Zealand, representing the manufacturers that use linen flax fibre as raw material. He replaces Mr H. F. The Rev. F. R. Belmer, of Kennington, Southland, has taken up his appointment in Christchurch as commissioner to the Maintenance of the Ministry Committee of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand. He succeeds the Rev. T. W. Armoui.

Congratulations to Mr R. McPherson, a member of the Canterbury Chapter of the New Zealand Institute of Secretaries, on receiving the award of C.8.E., were extended at the annual meeting of the chapter last evening.

Mr A. L. Sutton, the newly-elected treasurer of the Canterbury Provincial Bands’ Assooiation, was presented with a life member’s badge at the annual meeting of the association held recently, andJVlr,W. T. Redman, the retiring treasurer, was appointed a life member. Other officers elected were:— president, Mr J. Bruorton; vice-presi-dent, Mr C. Frew (Ashburton); and secretary, Mr F. J. Turner.

Mr E. Stackhouse was appointed the Waimairi County Council’s representative on the Canterbury Progress League at a meeting of the council last evening. Mr F. W. Freeman was appointed the representative of the Automobile Association, Canterbury, on the league at a meeting of the council of the association last evening.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr W. M. McGuire, a former chairman of the Canterbury Chapter of the New Zealand Institute of Secretaries, was passed at the chapter’s annual meeting last evening.
