WOOL FOR BABIES’ CLOTHING
NO LARGE STOCKS HELD BY TRADERS
OVERSEAS SHIPMENTS DUE TO ARRIVE SOON (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 23. An investigation into suggestions that stocks of New Zealand skein wool and other woollen lines were still being held by factories, wholesalers, and retailers showed that no such stocks appeared to be held and that production was being distributed with no undue delay, said the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Mr A. H. Nordmeyer) in the House of Representatives to-day in answer to Mr D. W. Coleman (Government, Gisborne). Mr Nordmeyer said advice had just been received that shipments of baby wool were now on their way to New Zealand, which should result in the distribution of substantial quantities within the next three months. The first shipment was on the Brisbane Star, due to arrive about August 4. In addition, steps were being taken to encourage the local manufacture of larger quantities of wool suitable for knitting babies’ garments.
