MORE THAN £7OOO IN STAKES

Sir Michael, which proved one of the best four-year-olds seen out during the season when he earned £3325 for five wins and four minor placings, is working well at Addington and he should win his way into the best company next term for his owner-trainer, C. A. Tasker. Now assessed on 2min Bsec, 2min 42sec, and 4min 24sec, Sir Michael has earned £7060 in stakes in two seasons.

A big son of Lusty Volo and Lady Bridget, Sir Michael was unplaced in his only start at a totalisator meeting as a , two-year-old, but in the following year he earned £3735 for five wins and two minor placings, his successes including the Wellington Stakes, the New Zealand Derby Stakes, the New Zealand Champion Stakes, the Charles Cross Stakes, the Speedway Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s Easter meeting, and the New Zealand Futurity Stakes. Pringle, ■ gave an encouraging display from the 24 yards mark to finish in fifth place in the Washdyke Trot Handicap at the South Canterbury Hunt Club’s meeting on Saturday. A five-year-old mare. All Ashore is trained at Temuka by T. H. Gunning, and she appeals as a likely improver. Lusty Prince is working well for C. H. Turner at Addington. D. Withers has commenced work on a chestnut gelding, which is by Gamble from a Rey de Oro mare. Melton gave a fair display at the South Canterbury Hunt Club’s meeting at Washdyke on Saturday, and he appears to have fair prospects. Little Jean is working well at Addington for W. J. Allan and she should continue to pay her way next season. An aged mare by U. Scott from a Great Bingen mare, Little Jean secured five placings this season, her record including a win over Loyal Toast in the Bollard Handicap at the Cheviot Trotting Club’s meeting on March 15, a win over Worthy Robert in the Manaia Handicap at the Hawera Trotting Club’s meeting on April 5, and a win over Onerous in the McDonald Handicap at the Manawatu Trotting Club’s meeting on April 19.

Brother to Gay Note Among the several well-bred youngsters running on C. M. Laing's property at Tinwald is a younger brother to Gay Note, which showed a lot of ability at his first two starts for the season to secure a second placing to Kahurangf"in the first division of the Wairewa Handicap at the Banks Peninsula Racing Club’s meeting on March 1, and a win in the first division of the Seadown Handicap at the Timaru Trotting Club’s meeting on March 8. A speedy three-year-old son of Nelson Eddy and Rainstorm, Gay Note lost form after being involved in an accident in the Domain Handicap at the Forbury Park Trotting Club’s meeting on April 26, and he was unplaced in his last three starts for the season. Volo's Pride is back in work again in P. Rogers’s team at Epsom and he may make his next appearance at the Thames Trotting Club’s meeting next month. A four-year-old gelding, Volo’s Pride, which recorded three wins and two minor placings when trained by C. R. Berkett for Messrs H. Cook and C. Neville, is by Lusty Volo from Wild Child, which left a family of winners, including Royal Parade, Streamline, Sure Potts, Catalpa, and Volo Lad. Sir Garry, a brother to Catalpa. is in J. B. Pringle’s stable at Hornby, and he will begin his racing career next season.

At Rangiora Frank’s Pride, which was placed in five of her 11 races this season, is being trained at Rangiora and she should leave the maiden classes early in the new season. H. Walker is training a promising trotter at Addington for Mr W. G. Deyell A big gelding by Springfield Globe, he is out of Kitty Kearney, which is by a fine trotter in Peterwah from Acush'la Machree. the dam of winners in lone and Dublin. A winner herself, Acushla Machree. which was foaled in 1913, is by Prince Imperial from Ferns, by Rothschild from Ruahine, by Prince Bismarck irom the Dexter mare, Fidget.

Settling Down Gaillard Lass has settled down since being trained at Addington by W. J. Rusbatch, and she gave a good display when working in company with Lusty Prince on Tuesday morning. A four-year-old mare, Gaillard Lass is by Gaillard from Silk Bonny, Which is by Silk Thread from Dark Audubon. Arion Thorpe gave a promising display from the 48 yards mark in the Washdyke Trot Handicap at the South Canterbury Hunt Club's meeting on Saturday to finish m seventh place, and. better placed in the handicaps, he may soon win a race for Mr J. A. Flynn, for whom he is trained at Washdyke by W. A. Thomas. A six-year-o!d gelding by Arion Axworthy from Lou Thorpe. Arion Thorpe secured his first win for the season in the Dash Trot Handicap on a slow track at the W.nton Jockey Club’s meeting on November 9. Out of a Winner D. A. Withers’s team at Addington includes a two-year-old filly by U. Scott from Little Reta, which will race in the interests of Mr G. Rutherford. A winner for the late E. C.
