CLEARING THE LAST FENCE.—With his ears pricked, Formidable clears the last fence to win the Grand National Steeplechase at Flemington, Melbourne. He led all the way. Formidable is described as a moody horse, which gets bad tempered in Melbourne. Because of his refusal to eat while in Melbourne, he has to be taken home by float, a distance of 170 miles, between racing engagements.
