IRRIGATION TO COST £3,000,000

ASHBURTON COUNTY SCHEMES (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 22. The estimated total cost of completed irrigation schemes in the Ashburton county is £3,109,000, according to a return tabled to-day by the Minister cf Works (Mr R. Semple). Expenditure to July 1 on the Rangilata diversion race was £2,025,465, and the estimated cost of finishing it is £ 50,535. The Ashburton-Lyndhurst scheme has cost £405,205, with the work yet to be done estimated to cost £4795. The sum spent on the MayfieldHinds scheme is £256,017, and it is estimated that the cost of completion will be £366,983. The cost of the Surrey Hills siphon was £266.228. Payments made in compensation for land acquired and losses suffered by farmers and others in the Ashburton county amounted t0..£10,661.
