TROTTING

TRANSFER TO A. HOLMES’S STABLE Paul Collette, which was previously trained at Belfast by C. S. Donald for Misses W. E. and M. A. Madden, is the latest addition to A. Holmes’s team at Yaldhurst. A handsome son of Jack Potts and Bridget Borough, Paul Collette began his career as a two-year-old in the 1942-43 season, and at his fourth start he gave a fine display to finish in third place to Acropolis and Plunder Bar in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes at the Ashburton Trotting Club s winter meeting. The colt improved rapidly under A. Butterfield’s care, and at his first appearance in the 1943-44 season he won the Canterbury Three-year-old Stakes at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s National meeting by three lengths from Acropolis. Paul Collette was transferred to E. J. Smith’s stable in the early part of the season, and he secured his first placing for him when he followed Imperial Lady home in the New Zealand Champion Stakes at the Ashburton Trotting Club’s summer meeting. His other placings for the season included a win in the Waihora Park Handicap at the Banks Peninsula Racing Club’s meeting and a win over Dunstan Direct in the Army Handicap at the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club’s patriotic meeting. Gold Gift, which is being trained at Washdyke by W. A. Thomas for Mr A. Woods, is a three-year-old filly by Gold Bar from Te Moana.
