MARKETING OF HONEY

PRODUCERS’ CRITICISM OF I.M.D. SECRECY

(P.A.) WELLINGTON. July 3. “This conference disagrees with the Minister of Marketing (Mr E. Cullen) in his refusal to give the National Beekeepers’ Association full information of the activities of the Internal Marketing Division and in doing so would remind him that his refusal implies his lack of confidence in his own department and is reflected in the producers’ lack of confidence, as shown by the falling off of supplies.’’ This remit, submitted by Canterbury, was carried at the annual conference of the National Beekeepers’ Association.

In the event of the Internal Marketing Division closing down its honey section the association will demand that the assets of that section be disposed of as to plant by public tender and as to other reserves by returning surpluses to suppliers. Before the sale of Internal Marketing Division plant and stock, the association will demand that due notice be given to it If the honey section is retained, the Government is to be invited to set up a producers’ board, consisting of three members elected by producers and two by the Government, the board’s powers to be limited to honey supplv volunteered by producers. A South Auckland remit was carried asking that the incoming executive inquire fully into the marketing of honey to ensure continuation of stable marketing conditions. The Honey Suppliers’ Association is to be asked to co-operate fully with the executive of the National Beekeepers’ Association to ensure adequate supplies of honey to the Internal Marketing Division and to see that the president of the Beekeepers’ Association is invited to attend committee meetings of the Suppliers’ Association.

executive of the Beekeepers’ Association is being instructed to put forward its best efforts to secure an increase in price. The Internal Marketing Division is to be asked for reasons for its inactivity in prosecutions for the nonpurchase of seals and stamps.
