SEPARATE ROLLS FOR MAORIS
GOVERNMENT’S INTENTION (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, July 3. The preparation of electoral rolls for Maori voters will be the subject of legislation soon to be introduced in the House of Representatives according to a statement by the Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) this afternoon. Mr Fraser said this decision had been made after representations had been made by the four Maori members. After the Raglan petition had been heard. Mr Fraser said, he had asked the Electoral Department to report on weaknesses and anomalies in the electoral laws which might have become apparent during the hearing of the appeal He would have no objection to the setting up of a committee of the House of Representatives to investi-
gate existing laws as suggested by Mr A. C. Baxter <Government. Raglan) when he seconded the Address-in-Reply motion on Tuesday night.

QUESTION ASKED IN HOUSE (P.A.) WELLINGTON. July 3. The controversy over the school broadcast series “How Things Began” was briefly mentioned in the House of Representatives to-day In a notice of question Dr. A. M. Finlay (Government. North Shore) asked if the Minister of Education (Mr H. G R. Mason) would call a conference of all interested parties to consider the points that had been made for and against continuation of the series and to make recommendations to the Government.
