IMPRISONMENT FOR SIX MONTHS
(P.A.) DUNEDIN. June 18. Described by Chief-Detective Hail as a “confidence man and pretty plausible fellow/’ Thomas O’Connor, aged 50. a labourer, was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment in the Magistrate’s Court this moYning. O’Connor admitted obtaining £3 from a stranger on the pretext of taking a taxi to Palmerston to see a sick daughter. The complainant, Bruce Adams, said th _• accused approached him. Having no money at the time, he gave the accused a note to take to his home. Mrs Adams gave him the money. The Magistrate said O’Connor had a bad record since 1920 of 17 offences, mostly relating to false pretences.
