Dr. W. IS. Sutch, adviser to UNRRA on European economic affairs, is at present attending the conference .at Geneva of the Economic Commission for Europe. Dr. Sutch will soon complete a series of 50 specialised studies on the economic rehabilitation of the countries where UNRRA has been operating. Each is a small book, of 30,000 to 50,000 words which Dr. Sutch compiled in collaboration with a staff of economists of several nationalities. These studies, it is reported, are valued by government departments of several countries, by the Food and Agricultural Organisation and by the International Bank. They are basic material for the Economic Commission for Europe. Dr. Sutch was formerly secretary-economist to the New Zealand Minister of Finance and later economic adviser to the Ministry of Supply.—London, May 7.
Mr Leicester Webb, the Director of Stabilisation, will leave by air on Saturday for Geneva to take part m the trade talks.—(P.A.)
Dr. T. F. Corkill has been appointed a member of the Nurses* and Midwives’ Board according to notice’ appearing in the Gazette,—(PA..) Mr G. A. Colonel H. M. Foster, 0.8. E. Assist-ant-Quartermaster-General, Northern Military District, has been appointed commander of the British Common wealth Occupation Force sub-area in Tokyo, replacing Colonel D T. Maxwell. who is returning to New Zealand.—(P. A.)
The appointment to the Stock Remedies Registration Board of Mr J. F. Filmer, representing the New Zealand Veterinary Association and Mr C. B. McDougall, representing the Pharmacy Board, is notified In the Gazette. —(PA.)
