NAPIER WOOL SALE

OFFERING OF 30,000 BALES KEEN COMPETITION (P.A.) NAPIER, May 8. The six catalogues offered at the Napier wool sale to-day comprised approximately 30,000 bales of greasy which met competition from all sections of the trade. The>official report says that the demand for fleece wool showed more keenness than the previous Napier sale, and good style and fine wools in particular, met with animated competition,- leaving average to inferior wools to be taken over by the Wool .Disposal Commission. There was keen competition from Continental and Bradford buyers for pieces and bellies. These'showed a slight rise on the previous high level. Necks did not receive the spirited competition of the earlier part of the season. Canada, Bradford, and the Continent were keen buyers of lambs’ wool. Some high prices were paid for super lines, but average and inferior lines met with erratic competition at lower prices. The range of prices was:—

Wilson’s Cement.—The directors of Wilson’s (N.Z.) Portland Cement Company, Ltd., recommend a final dividend of 2|d a share, making 4 1-6 per cent, for the year ended March 31, an unchanged distribution. Books close from June 12 to June 25, the annual meeting being fixed for the latter date.

Equitable Building—ft. net profit of £2929 tzas made by the Equitable Building and Investment Company of Wellington, Ltd., for the year ended March 31. This compares with £1909 the previous year. Income remaining after payment of working expenses and interest to depositors was £8929 (£8159 in 1946). Provision of £5400 has been made for taxes. Bycroft, Ltd.—Net profit of £14,089, an increase of £951, was earned by Bycroft, Ltd., flour millers and biscuit manufacturers, in the year ended March 31. The result is reached after provision for taxation, depreciation, and bad debts. The gross income was £114,258, against £102,231. Gross profit from trading amounted to £110,265 against £98,376, and discounts, interest, rents, etc., to £3988 against £3853. Dividend for the year is again 8 per cent, (final 4 per cent.), ab-. sorbing £12,000, and leaving £2089 to increase the carry-forward to £10,280. A victory bonus of 2i per cent, was added to the dividend in 1946.—(P.5.5.)

FARMLEIGH JERSEY DISPERSAL

Buyers from all parts of the v South Island and some from the North Island attended the dispersal sale at the Snow Grounds yesterday of the Farmleigh Jersey Stud of Mrs F. W. Guinness (Ealing). One entry was bought for the North Island, which could not compete with keen southern buying, particularly from the West Coast, Marlborough, and Southland. In all, 22 head were offered. Top price was 72jgns, which was paid for a heifer. The 10 heifers sold ranged from 16gns to the top price. Six cows made from 27gns to 70gns, and five young bulls from 20gns to 50gns. An aged byll made 25gas. The sale was conducted by Pyne, Gould, Guinness Ltd.
