MILITARY AWARDS ANNOUNCED
4 DECORATIONS WON BY NEW ZEALANDERS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 7. The following awards to personnel of the 2nd NX.E.F. have been announced to-night:— Member 6t ot Br,t,sh Acting-Captain N. R. O. Ruff, of Wellington. Military Medal Staff-Sergedht T. Moir, D.C.M., of Rotorua. British Empire Medal Driver T. L. Hirst, of Whangarel. Captain Ruff, of the New Zealand railways traffic manager’s office in Wellington, receives his award for Service in Burma, Staff-Sergeant Moir, who is employed by the State Forest Service in the Rotorua area, left with the Ist Echelon and was taken prisoner in June, 1941, but escaped and made his way back to base camp He was again taken, prisoner in 1942 and was repatriated tb thfe United Kingdom in Oliver Hirst was also a member of the Ist Echelon. He was taken prisoner in 1941 and returned, td Ndw Zealand in 1945, out re-embarked With the fii*st section of J Force last year.
