WAGE INCREASE SOUGHT
—<o — Court Hearing ORIGINAL CLAIM MAINTAINED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, May 8. “The National Council of the New Zealand Federation df Labour to-day instructed the national executive to proceed with the application for a wage increase of 8d an hour, converted into a weekly wage, in terms df the Stabilisation Emergency Regulations, Amendment No. 11,” said the secretary of the federation (Mr K. McL. Baxter) after the first day’s sitting to-day of a special meeting of the council. The application for a general increase in the terms of the amendment to the regulations was now a matter for negotiation with the employers representatives and for the convenience oi the Court. It was the original desire of the employers’ and employees’ representatives that the case be heard on April 21 or April 28. Asked whether this decision meant that the federation would proceed as originally planned by the national executive in accordance with the amendment to the regulations, Mr Baxter said: “Yes, as originally intended.” -
