Sir William Ji. Williams, an aiderman and a former Mayor of Cardiff, will be given an informal reception dn May 23 by the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr E. H. Andrews). Sir William Williams, who was knighted for his work during the depression in raising £1,500,000 for the relief erf dIS-\ tressed miners, is high chief ruler of the Independent Order Of Rechabites. Lady Williams will accorhpany hiin to Christchurch. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr D. G. Sullivan was carried at a meeting of the Canterbury Progress League last evening. Mr A. Anderson, chairman of the Ellesmere County Council, was appointed yesterday to represent Ward 11 on the executive of- the New Zealand counties’ Association. Congratulations to the chairman of the Lyttelton fiarbojir Board (Mr W. S. Mac Gibbon) On his retent marriage were extended by members of the board and representatives of the staff after the meeting yesterday. On behalf of members apd the staff, the deputy-chairman (Mr C. W. lyierj presented Mr Mac Gibbon with a coffee table.
