REASON FOR TURNING PROFESSIONAL AMERICAN PLAYER’S STATEMENT (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) „ c, . « NEW YORK, May 6. Mrs Sarah Palfrey-Cooke, in an interview to-day, said that she and Miss Pauline Betz had decided to become professionals so they could get something out of the game before they grew too old and were beaten. Miss Betz said that the only difference between being an amateur and a professional was that amateurs drew expenses from the gate money of tournaments and other fixtures they attended. Professionals did the same but got a little more.
