DISQUALIFIED FOR TEN YEARS

OWNER AND TWO JOCKEYS POVERTY BAY INQUIRY (P.A.) HASTINGS, May 7Ab a result of an inquiry in Hartings this afternoon into the running of the Poverty Bay Hurdles Handicap at the Poverty Bay Turf Club’s meeting at Gisborne on February •» IM7, the Hawkes Bay District. Racing Committee found that R. C. Croft, Hartings, the owner of Plain’ Boy, had committed corrupt practice under rule 338 (1) (A), or in the alternative under rule X (1) (H). Under rule 338 (X). he was disqualified for io years as from May 7, 1947. The committee also decided that Croft had committed corrupt practice under rule 343 (1), and he was disqualified for three years Ms from May 7, 1947. Other findings of the committee on the same incident ware:—“C. Oarroll is found to have committed corrupt practice under rule 338 (1) (F), or in the alternative under rule 2. (1) (H), and under rule 338 (8) is disqualified for 10 years, to run from May 7, 1947. I. C. Rohloff is found to have committed corrupt practice under rule X (1) (H) by aiding, abetting, end procuring a breach of rule 338 (1) (A) by R. C. Croft and Cecil Carroll, and under rule 338 (2), he is disformic years, to run from May 'Having considered the evidence against 3. McGreal, the committee was of the opinion that there was not enough, and that what there was was not sufficiently reliable to enable it to find that McGreal committed any breach of rule 2 (1) (H). The following resolution was also passed: “The committee recommends that the conference executive request its stipendiary and deputy-stipendiary stewards to take particular notice of the treatment accorded to Max Rough’s horses during races in future, and also towards any horse ridden by N. Rouse.” The result of the Poverty Bay Hurdles was:—l Thunderhead 10-2 N. Rouse 1; 3 Sir Grant 9-12 I. C. Rohloff 2; 4 Plain Boy 9-2 i A. Lord 3. Clauses of rule 338 of the New Zealand Rules of Racing are:—"(1) Every person commits a corrupt practice within the meaning of these rules who, in New Zealand or any other country, (a) corruptly gives or offers, directly or indirectly, present, share in a bet, or other benefit, to any person having official duties in relation to a race, or to any owner, trainer, rider, or other person having charge of or access to any horse; (3) every person who commits a corrupt practice may, in addition to any other penalty imposed by any of these rules, be disqualified for any specified period or for life, by stewards or committee of any club, or any district committee, within whose jurisdiction the corrupt practice was committed, or by the executive committee or by judges of the conference."
