ARRESTS IN RUMANIA
DRIVE BY SECURITY POLICE
(Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, May 8. The Rumanian State security police ih a 48-hour campaign arrested members of the opposition National Liberals and National Peasants for “instigating revolt, inciting racial hatred, creating subversive organisations and carrying out acts of terror and sabotage,” says the correspondent In Bucharest of the Associated Press. Mr Victor Silvescu, a former Minister of Finance and a former national bank director and Dr. Virgil Solomon, leader of the National Peasant Party, are believed to be among those arrested. . . The correspondent learns that 241 ijeople arrested some time ago are now ih Ploesti prison., N.Z. Chrgo From Montreal.—More than 8000 tons of newsprint, auto parts, ahd truck bodies will be shipped on the City of Eastbourne, which will sail oh May 21 for Auckland, Wellington, ahd Dunedin. The ship is due at Auckland about June 23. It is the first cargo for New Zealand from this port this season.—Montreal, May 6.
