Tne Paris correspondent of the Associated Press learns from a high source that the American Ambassador *h Paris (Mr Jefferson Caffery) has intimated to the leaden of the nonparties that if the Socialists consent to head an anti-Comrrnin-ist coaiition. Washington will be sympathetic to requests for help in maintaining Mr Ramadier’s economic policy. The correspondent adds that officials of the Embassy are compiling a detailed new report on the kind of assistance needed and how much of it could be expected from America. French officials said the immediate need was wheat t o maintain the current bread ration.
r Pierre Teitgen. a member of the M.R.P., who formerly shared the de-puty-premiership with Mr Maurice Thorez, the Communist leader, will take over Mr Thorez’s duties in the reconstituted French Cabinet, says a decree issued by the French President, Mr Vincent Auriol.
