BUILDING TIMBERS
Sir,—More public attention should be given to the facts brought out in “Civic s” letter in “The Press” on May 3 that present housing construction is ruination because high and lower grade timbers are used indiscriminately. The Timber Controller is correct in saying that “scientific planning is actually concerned with using the whole product of the forest to best advantage.” To attain this it is required that the Timber Controller should market forest products profitably and place them correctly. Only high grade, and not lower grade, timbers, treated with preservatives, should be used for permanent construction, such as houses, with the lower grades reserved for innumerable temporary uses.—Yours, etc.. ALF. G. HOLLAND. May 5. 1947.
