MAGISTRATE’S COURT
WEDNESDAY (Before Mr F. F. Reid, S.M.) REMANDED FOR SENTENCE Dennis Leslie Day, a hotel porter, aged 27 (Mr R. A. Young), pleaded guilty to the theft of £ll m money, the property of Leopold Edward Franklin, and to converting a motor-car, valued at £3OO, tne property of Franklin. Detective-Sergean A. A Herron said that Day had boarded at the complainant's residence. While the complainant was away. Day had stolen £ll from his bedroom. Later, he had taken the complainant’s car, and driven it round the town for two hours. He had been twice previously convicted for converting motor-cars. Day was remanded until to-day for sentence, bail being allowed for £5O, with one surety of £5O. DESERTION John Joseph Simpson, a seaman, aged 40. was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment with hard labour for deserting from the overseas vessel Port Jackson. CONVICTED AND DISCHARGED Robert Quentin Dawber, a labourer, aged 29, was convicted and discharged for failing to comply with the terms of a probationary licence. INCOME TAX DEFAULTER Frederick Jennings, a farmer, of Sefton (Mr P. H. Wood), pleaded guilty to two charges of failing to furnish returns of income. A fine of £2 was imposed on each charge.
