PARTY LEAVES FOR MAFEKING £lO,OOO CHEQUE PRESENTED TO PRINCESS (Rec. 11 p.m.) LONDON, April 16. The Royal Family has left Bulawayo for Mafeking. The Premier of Southern Rhodesia (Sir Godfrey Huggins) presented a cheque for £lO,OOO, subscribed by the people of the colony, to Princess Elizabeth as a twenty-first birthday present, reports Reuter’s correspondent at Bulawayo. The money will be used for the interchange of Rhodesian and British young men and women to increase mutual knowledge an ' understanding of the two countries. Contributions to the fund are still coming in. Yesterday Their Majesties and the Princesses climbed the last mile up the Matopos hills, 30 miles outside Bulawayo, to pay; tribute to Cecil Rhodes, whose grave is at the top.
