RESTRICTION OF EGG SUPPLIES
ONLY PRIORITY NEEDS THIS WEEK
No eggs are being distributed to retailers in the Christchurch marketing area this week except for priority purposes. On the instruction of the Internal Marketing Division, the eggs which would normally be available to the public in Christchurch are being sent to Wellington to maintain the priority supplies there. Next week eggs will be available on the present ration of half an eag for each butter ration.
The Christchurch manager of the Internal Marketing Division (Mr J. A. Manton) said yesterday that eggs would be available this week only for hospital patients, children under five years of age. invalids, and nursing or expectant mothers. The April egg return was normally low. and production this month had been down to such an extent that the usual local distribution had been curtailed. Mr Man con said that Wellington had had jjp distribution of eggs for three or tour weeks, except for priorities. It was a consumer area, not a producer area, and drew its supplies of eggs from as far north as Auckland and as far south as Dunedin. The whole .organisation was a co-operative one. and that was why the eggs which would normally be available in Christchurch were being sent to Wellington.
