FIRE IN WELLINGTON BUILDING

REHABILITATION FILES SAVED

t (P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 16. Starting from a gas-fired air-condi- ■ tioning system, fire in the top floor of | Hope Gibbons Buildings in Dixon . street last night destroyed the heating ducts and burned hundreds of blank . files in the Rehabilitation Department’s offices. Although slightly damaged by water, the majority of files dealing , with returned servicemen throughout , the Dominion were saved by the prompt spreading of tarpaulins by firemen. The fire was quickly extinguished. Spreading up the fibrous board of the air duct, flames ignited the rafters in one comer of a large room, but were quenched before any structural damage had been done.
