The Court of Convocation (graduates) of Canterbury University College has nominated Messrs A. E. Flower and D. W. Bain as its representatives on the College Council. Mr Flower and Mr J. H. E. Schroder retired by rotation this year, Mr Schroder not seeking renomination. Reference to the death of Mr Reg. Smith, formerly head auctioneer to Dalgety and Company, Ltd., in Christchurch, was made at the commencement of the store sheep sale at Addington yesterday. Mr J. T. Matson referred to the many fine qualities of Mr Smith, and a resolution of sympathy with the relatives was carried by the large gathering of farmers present. Mr R. H. Senior, a director of the Port Line. Ltd., London, is visiting Christchurch. Dr. T. P. Fielden and Mr Colin Taylor have been appointed by the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London, to conduct examinations in the Dominion this year, according to advice received from London. They are expected to reach New Zealand in July.—(P.A.) Sympathy with the relatives of Mr D. G. Sullivan was expressed by the council of the Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association at its meeting last evening. The president (Mr B. J. Masters) said that Mr Sullivan had been a great friend to industry all his hf e . His replacement in the Cabinet would be a hard job. Reference to the great interest which Mr Sullivan had displayed in the linen flax industry, first in its establishment as a war-time measure and later in its development as a post-war industry, was made by the chairman, Mr F. Johnson, at a meeting of the directors of the Linen Flax Corporation of New Zealand on Tuesday. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of Mr Sullivan was passed by the meeting.
