McKendry, the three-year-dld filly Fontaine showed a lot of ability to be placed in both her heats at the Ashburton Ti-otting Club’s matinee meeting on March 4. and on that form she should be hard to beat in the Washdyke Handicap at the South Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting at Washdyke on Saturday. Owned and trained by J. Grice, Tinwald, Fontaine is by Casanova from Virginia, Which left a useful pacer in Smirke to Rey de Oro. Dtist Causes Accidents Clotids of dust, which were fanned by a high wind, caused several mishaps at the Manawatu Trotting Club’s meeting at Awapuni on Saturday, and the Cust trainer, G. Alexander, was taken to hospital as a result of a fall. Alexander was driving Mavis Grattan in the Broadway Handicap wheh he met with th? accident. Mavis Grattan was produced ir. the Ashhiitst Handicap later ih the efietnoon, and. driven by D. jqnes, who drove Culture to win the Broadway Handicap, she finished fast to beat Simla Hall, which had tried to lead all the way. Half-way down the straight. Gold Strike stumbled when making a fast rim. and she turned a complete somersault. Her trainerdriver, N.
