INDOOR COMPETITIONS The number of teams registered with the Y.M.C.A. indoor Basketball League was 80, more than double the number last year, reported Mr F. E. S. Long, general secretary to the Board of Directors of the Christchurch Y.M.C.A. last evening. More than 650 players were enrolled in three grades, he said. The King Edward Barracks, made available this year by the Army authorities, was proving an admirable playing centre. Three courts. 94 feet by 50 feet, were being used on two evenings of the week for play and extra practices were being held at the Y.M.C.A. gymnasium. The organlsatoin of the league was in the hands of the phvsical director (Mr G. Harkness), who had a number of referees, line umpires, scorers, and timekeepers to assist him. Indoor basketball was considered to be one of the most popular games in the Dominion and when better known among the public should be well supported by spectators, said Mr Long. _ n J
