BEST RESULT SINCE NOVEMBER
The most successful coupon-saving effort since November last year was reported yesterday by the Christchurch Famine Emergency Committee m a statement which said that last week 57.878 meat coupons, worth £723 9s 6d. and 1746 butter coupons, representing 8731 b. had been received. “It is a gratifying coincidence.” said the secretary of the committee. Mr E. A. Chivers, “that such a good result should be achieved at a time when the Minister of Marketing. Mr E. F. Cullen. was issuing a statement that anyone who saves butter, cheese, and meat could be assured that it can and will be shipped. “We take great heart.” continued Mr Chivers, “from the advice received from the Ministry of Food in Britain that shipping space is available for the maximum we can load. This calls for a maximum effort on our part, in nroduction. and generosity, in order that every pound we can spare can be shipped.”
