CHURCH OFFICERS ELECTED

PARISHIONERS OF ST, STEPHEN’S, SHIRLEY

To prepare a scheme for the more rapid development of a building fund for a new church, a committee, comprising Messrs F. W. Woodward, L. P. Botherway, G. M. Morgan, G. Hocken, M. Andrews, Misses Goodman, B. Ward, and J. Johnson, was appointed at the annual meeting of parishioners of St. Stephen’s Church, Shirley, which was held on Monday evening. Officers were elected as follows: vicar’s warden, Mr F. H. Law; parishioners’ warden, Mr S. P. Hamilton; vestry. Messrs L. P. Botherway, F. A. Drayton, C. Josland, H. H. Hill, G. M. Morgan, G. Ridout; auditor, Mr Hatch; synodsfnan, Mr H. V. Ward. The balance-sheet, although showing an increased debit of £69 as against £39 last year, was considered satisfactory because of the amounts spent on repairs and renovations, it was stated. Tributes were paid to Mr F. W. Woodward, who, after 20 years’ service, did not stand for re-election as warden. When he took over the books as treasurer, the debt of the parish was £919, and now there was only the deficit in the current account to face, it was stated. Additions to the Sunday school had also been made and paid for during that time;. Further arrangements were made for the parish project, whidh will open on May 13. It was announced that a fine educational programme was being prepared and that several bodies had promised their co-opera-tion and assistance. As a contribution from the church toward better community living, it promised to be a success.
