REVERSION TO PRIVATE ENTERPRISE
(Rec. 10.30 p.m.) LONDON April 15. “The Government is preparing to hand back Britain’s overseas shopping to private enterprise.” says the “Daily MaiL” “The Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food (Dr. Edith Summerskill) gave the strongest official hint of this step when she said there would be no more bulk purchases of tea from India and Ceylon* “The Government is consulting merchants and brokers who handled prewar imports. Almost the only trade which has not had Government feelers for a reversion to private buying is cotton.*
