H.M.S. NELSON HIT BY SUBMARINE
LONDON. April 14. A hole three feet in diameter was made above the waterline in the hull of H.M.S, Nelson when the battleship was struck by the submarine Sceptre in a fog in Portland harbour. The Nelson was secured to a buoy when the mishap occurred. The Sceptre buckled her bow plates. There were no casualties. The Sceptre, which has never been on foreign service, is known as “H.M.S. Stay At Home.”
