VIOLENCE IN PALESTINE

BOMB KILLS ONE, WOUNDS FIVE IRGUN RADIO ANNOUNCES “TEMPORARY LULL” (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 7 pun.) JERUSALEM, March 19. One British policeman was killed and five other men were wounded when a.bomb exploded among them while they were returning from a cinema at Zichrom Yaakob in northern Palestine to-night. One British, soldier was seriously wounded and two other soldiers and two policemen were slightly wounded. Irgun Zvai Leumi’s illegal radio claimed that “Our 10,000 men and women are going underground for a temporary lull. This, however, is not a cessation of hostilities.” After long consideration, the Jewish newspapers have decided not to advertise photographs and particulars of wanted terrorists as requested by the Government, says the corespondent of “The Times” in Jerusalem. They say this is too advanced a step for them to take, but they are willing to cooperate in other ways. The Government must now consider whether to enforce publication or meet the newspapers’ viewpoint by altering its plans. The terrorists are believed to have warned the newspapers not to use the advertisements.
