QUESTIONS FOR R.S.A.
Sir, —Although it is encouraging to learn that the Returned Services’ Association is interested in housing, a few remarks last week by the president on the trifling fine imposed for a flagrant abuse of the building regulations would, ’have been opportune. The R.S.A. should convene a conference of interested parties to control building commodities from the source, not only to ensure the returned serviceman has a real priority in *‘scarce” commodities like plaster, concrete, etc., but also to press for tougher penalties and confiscation for abuses of building permits. Does the R.S.A.’s viewpoint coincide with the rank and file’s on more food rationing? Last year the Dominion executive’s request to spread gratuities over three years was not my wish, because Kiwis like myself needed that cash to pay for increasing building costs, etc. —Yours, etc., a A. E. E. IVORY. March 18, 1947.
