ADDINGTON WORKSHOPS STRIKE SETTLEMENT
The terms of the settlement of the recent strike by 40 men in the timber mill at the Addington railway workshops have not been announced; but it is reported that, on the major point of status and wages, the < men succeeded in establishing their point, and that no action has been taken on their further contention that one of their members should have been promoted to the position of sub-foreman in tne / mill. . The agreement reported is that ail millhands, who before the strike were classified as semi-skilled workers, have now been regraded as tradesmen, a status entitling them to a ns® in wages of IJd an hour. The agreement will mean that the workers concerned will now. become members Qi the Tradesmen’s Association, transferring from the Amalgamated Society Railway Servants. 1 No departmental advice qi changed status of the millhands, M® been received at the Addington Workshops.
