Because of complaints by residents of Alliance street, that lorries which had brought stock to the Addington market on Wednesdays gave off an offensive smell and attracted flies, the Health Department’s sanitary inspector asked the Riccarton Borough Council last evening to prohibit their parking on the side of Alliance street lined with houses. The Mayor (Mr H. S. S. Kyle) said it was a problem, because the lorries had to wait for return loads, and it was not easy to find parking space clear of the residential area. The matter was referred to the works committee.
